VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: St. Anthony’s Young Professionals Council
Are you passionate about your local community and effecting positive change? Are you tired of reading updates and news stories about the housing crisis and homelessness in San Francisco and wondering how you can actually do something about it? Have you been craving more involvement in your local community? The St. Anthony’s Young Professionals Council (SAYPC) is looking for creative and passionate 20- and 30-something volunteers from diverse backgrounds to join us in our mission to change the conversation around poverty and engage a new generation of Bay Area residents on how they can have a direct positive impact on homelessness.
The SAYPC formed in March 2015 to extend the mission of St. Anthony’s, a nonprofit organization in the heart of the Tenderloin providing essential services to San Franciscans living in poverty, including the city’s busiest dining hall, a medical clinic, tech lab, and more. In a little over a year, we’ve built from the ground-up a self-governing council that extends the reach and capacity of St. Anthony’s. Some of the initiatives and programs we’ve created in this short time include: an annual education and fundraiser event, a robust content strategy that leverages the voice of a new generation, a deep connection with St. Anthony’s advocacy efforts, creative volunteer programs, and more. We meet monthly as a council and connect as project teams more regularly. We are looking for people to help us propel these efforts to the San Francisco mainstream, making the SAYPC a voice for homelessness and poverty and the de facto resource for Bay Area residents seeking information and opportunities to engage.
You are first and foremost passionate about helping San Francisco’s most vulnerable residents. You are hungry for knowledge and eager to lend your creativity, diverse skillsets, and past experiences to collaborate with an enthusiastic, welcoming team of intellectually curious individuals ready to initiate change. You are a self-starter who makes their voice heard and respects other opinions and beliefs. Finally, you appreciate a good laugh and aren’t afraid of making a few new friends.
Does the SAYPC sound like a group you’d like to be a part of? Are you ready to contribute to building and maintaining a self-governing council while making a direct impact on your local community? Then we’d love to talk with you. Please email a personal statement to [email protected] detailing: why you’re passionate about supporting homeless & low-income San Franciscans; what brought you to St. Anthony’s; why you want to join the SAYPC; and what value you will bring. Feel free to email questions our way as well. We look forward to meeting you!
