Today, community is an industry and a discipline. It is something that can be learned and taught.

Until recently, it was more of a random position that people just “fell into.”

As a result, for students who might be interested in pursuing a career in community, there haven’t been many resources to guide them or places to go to learn more. No classes, no help finding jobs, no guidance on what a community career path looks like.

We’d like to see that change. As community becomes a bigger need for companies of all shapes and sizes, more companies are looking to hire community professionals. The best way to bring more talent into the industry is to start at the student level.

Today we’re proud to announce the first ever CMX Summit Scholarship program, sponsored by Vingle.

As part of the program, for CMX Summit East on May 19th, we will be giving away 20 tickets to students who apply for the scholarship program.

If you’re a student, you can apply here to get a free ticket to CMX Summit.

If you’re a student considering your different career options, I hope you’ll consider a career in community.

A few good reasons:

  • Business strategy (marketing, product, sales, , especially in tech, is all becoming community-driven
  • So you’ll be ahead of the game
  • It’s a fast growing industry with much more demand than supply in the talent pool
  • If you’re reading this post, there’s a good chance you see yourself as a natural community builder and now you can do what you love for a living

And if you need help figuring out how to get started, read this guide to getting your community career off the ground.

Another Announcement: We Will Donate 5% of CMX Summit Proceeds to Support the Recovery Effort in Nepal

We’ve watched, with heavy hearts, the devastation suffered by the people in Nepal in the wake of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Saturday.

We talk a lot about the power of community to do good in this world. It’s during times like these that we have an opportunity to prove it. With over 4,000 dead and millions stranded, the Nepal community needs our help now.

CMX will donate 5% of proceeds from CMX Summit East 2015 to support the relief effort in Nepal.

If you don’t want to attend CMX Summit but still want to donate, TIME shared a few trustworthy programs you can contribute to here.

Every bit counts. Let’s come together as a community and do some good.

Announcing the “Community Driven Marketing and ROI” Workshop

We just announced the fourth, and final workshop’s agenda: Community Driven Marketing and ROI. The workshop will be taught by Lauren Perkins, CEO of Perks Consulting.
Whether you’re working at an agency, a brand, or a startup, community and marketing are often highly integrated. But taking the wrong approach to community-driven marketing can spell disaster.
Lauren Perkins is a community industry veteran. She’ll be teaching an in-depth, 5-hour workshop that will give you all the tools you need to be successful in executing on your community marketing strategy. See more details on the conference website.

There are still seats available in the Gamification + Retention workshop taught by Justin Isaf and the Product + Community workshop taught by Rei Wang as well.

They’re filling up quick though, so don’t wait. Workshop 1 is already sold out.
