It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of the CMX Facebook Group on October 1, 2024.

All CMX Facebook Group members have been notified and invited to join our CMX Slack Community and our virtual and in-person events happening worldwide. If you have any questions, please email the CMX team!

The CMX Facebook Group is one of the longest-running programs at CMX. It began as an online space for CMX Summit attendees to connect after the first CMX Summit was held in 2014. The group became a crucial part of the CMX ecosystem, serving as a bustling and thriving community space for years.

A few years ago, after many conversations about burnout with various industry folks, I wrote a blog post about re-evaluating priorities in a community. Recently, it became time to re-evaluate the CMX Community and all of our programs and spaces. As I reviewed them, it became clear that I have an emotional attachment to all of our programs. I like to think that I know my members and that I understand what they want and love. Many of us have also given a lot of ourselves to the Facebook community and its programs. The thing is, emotions can stand in the way of logical decisions. It became clear that it was time to close the Facebook group. Closing down a community program is never an easy decision, and the CMX team did not take it lightly.

While the CMX Facebook Group thrived for a long time, as the industry and our community have matured, we've noticed that the group no longer provides the same level of value to our members. Over the years, we introduced various engagement strategies—such as a moderator team, special events, new weekly rituals, and mentor programs—but nothing sparked organic engagement in the community as we had hoped. Although we've welcomed hundreds of members over the past few years, engagement has been inconsistent, with occasional spikes followed by long periods of inactivity. In every community initiative, it's important to balance the time and resources we invest with the value that our members receive. We found that the Facebook group was not contributing to the broader goals of our community in a meaningful way, especially when measured against other platforms where we've seen stronger results. This decision wasn't easy, but after much reflection, we believe that focusing on spaces where we can better serve and connect with you, like in our Slack community, is the right move.

It’s easy to get caught up in doing more when building a community. However, we believe it’s crucial for community teams to regularly assess their programs to ensure they align with core goals. We’d rather invest fully in initiatives that deliver significant value to our members than continue pouring energy into efforts that haven’t resonated with the community. A good friend once said, “I always like to think that saying no to something is saying yes to something else.” By removing this program from our plate, the CMX team will have more time and resources to enhance our remaining programs.

Thank you to everyone who joined the CMX Facebook Group. We truly value the time spent in this community with all of you.

For anyone looking to stay engaged in the CMX community, we look forward to seeing you in the CMX Slack Community and at our virtual and in-person events happening worldwide.

At CMX, our mission is to help Community Professionals Thrive and Advance the Community Industry. And you know we’re going to keep experimenting with new programs and continue to innovate on how we can bring CMX members more value.

Please email your questions to team@cmxhub.com.

I’ll see you in the Community!

❤️ Beth
