It’s scholarship time! This is one of the programs we get most excited for around CMX Summit, because conferences are 100% about the people who attend them.

Seriously, the incredible work, dedication, passion, and stories community professionals continually bring to the table delights and astounds me. Communities are made of individuals, and while we want each and every one of you to attend CMX Summit, we also realize that there are financial and systemic barriers which can prevent some of you from joining us.

In our third year of this program, we’re able to offer more scholarships than ever! (PSST…if you are a company looking to sponsor this program, let us know! I will happily give out more scholarships with your support and tell the world.)

As we’re investing in growing CMX Summit for 2019 — 1,000 attendees and ~60 speakers —  this program is growing too! We will have two types of scholarship offerings: 1) free ticket + travel reimbursement (applications open May 6, 2019 and close May 24, 2019), and 2) free ticket only (applications open May 6, 2019 and will be granted on a rolling basis).

What do scholarship recipients get?

Either:

  • 1 non-transferable pass to CMX Summit 2019, our 2-day conference, happening September 5-6 in Redwood City, CA (the Bay Area).
  • Up to $600 of reimbursable costs to help offset your attendance to the conference such as travel, lodging, food, and childcare.

OR

  • 1 non-transferable pass to CMX Summit 2019, our 2-day conference, happening September 5-6 in Redwood City, CA (the Bay Area).

The form will allow you to choose which one you’d like to apply to (or allow you to choose both). For the ticket+travel option, we have a limited 20 scholarships, hence the shorter and more finite application period.

Am I eligible?

You:

  • Must be a member of an underrepresented group in the community professional field and at community conferences, including but not limited to: people of color; people with visible and invisible disabilities; LGBTQA+; veterans; religious and ethnic minorities; trans, genderqueer, agender, and nonbinary people; neurodiverse people; age minorities (under 21, over 50); working class people; and people experiencing poverty.
  • Must be able to attend CMX Summit 2019 in person.
  • If employed, must work for a non-profit, startup, or company making less than $500,000 in annual revenue. (If you are having trouble convincing your boss, check out our ticket transparency post with cost and benefit breakdowns.) Students and un- or underemployed people encouraged to apply.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must follow the CMX Summit Code of Conduct.

Applicants may not be awarded CMX Summit’s scholarship with travel reimbursement more than once. Past recipients may apply for ticket-only scholarship.

Scholarship recipients are responsible for arranging their own travel and lodging. Recipients are responsible for their own financial reporting, and will be given guidelines from us.

Due to limited availability, only one scholarship may be awarded per company. As cisgender women represent over 60% of attendees at CMX Summit, they are not considered an underrepresented group in our industry.

Application deadline: all applications for ticket+travel scholarships are closed as of Friday, 5/24/19 at 5pm PDT. However, you can still apply for our ticket-only scholarship.

Apply now!

We’re so excited to offer these scholarships. Everyone who applies for a scholarship will be notified either way. The initial acceptance period takes about a month after applications close. If you have any inquiries, please reach out to us at [email protected]
